The Great North Run got underway on Sunday (12 September) for the 40th edition of the historic race, filling the streets of Newcastle with thousands of runners once again.
The 2020 edition of the race was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic. Over 50,000 runners lined up for the comeback event, with the traditional Men’s Women’s and Wheelchair races also taking place.

Britain’s Marc Scott won the men’s race and Kenya’s Hellen Obiri triumphed in a thrilling finish to the women’s event.
