Rugby League World Cup 2021, delayed for a year, will be the first time ever that the men’s, women’s and wheelchair competitions have been staged simultaneously.

Both the women’s and wheelchair competitions will be contested by two groups of four teams, while the men’s tournament will see 16 teams compete across four groups.

All three tournaments will take place across 21 iconic venues in England and it will culminate with the first-ever double header final in UK sport history – with the women’s and men’s finals taking place, back-to-back, at Manchester’s Old Trafford, on November 19.

It all kicks off with hosts England welcoming Samoa in the men’s tournament at St James’ Park, on Saturday, October 15, at 2.30pm.

Yorkshire will stage a tantalising fixture the same evening between Australia and Fiji at Headingley, at 7.30pm.

The women’s opener, also at Headingley, is set to break the record for the highest-ever attendance for a women’s rugby league match in the Northern Hemisphere.

A world record crowd is expected at the Copper Box in London for the largest wheelchair rugby league attendance ever.

All three of England’s men’s group stage fixtures are also heading for a sell-out crowd.

In terms of sales, more than 250,000 tickets have already been sold for the World Cup, showing a huge demand for the tournament.

From the Riverside Stadium to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium in London, 18 different towns and cities will play host to some of the biggest names in Rugby League, as well as catering for all of the off-field preparations and training bases for each of the 32 competing teams.

The World Cup will crisscross moors, mountains, historic towns, and buzzing metropolitan cities, showcasing a diverse, welcoming culture, and all that England has to offer fans.

RLWC2021 will also be the most visible rugby league event in history, with all 61 games in the men’s, women’s, and wheelchair competitions being broadcast live on the BBC.

The tournament, usually played every four years, has also implemented a transformational social impact programme that has driven positive changes to many local communities across the country.

The ambitious programme has already delivered more than £25m of funding ahead of the tournament kicking-off this autumn. From funding bricks and mortar projects, to providing new opportunities for inclusive volunteers, this social impact initiative has been a central component of the tournament, and highlights RLWC2021’s focus and emphasis on making a difference.
