Greece’s flagship airline, Aegean, has added even more flights from Newcastle airport this summer. Flights from Newcastle to Athens begin on June 14, with strong demand prompting the airline to extend its summer schedule until October 25.

It was recently revealed that the number of UK travellers heading to Greece was up 181 percent from last year. And, for the first time ever, more people from the UK went to Greece than those from Germany, a country who have topped the visitor league tables in Greece for decades.

Leon McQuaid, Director of Aviation Development at Newcastle International Airport said: “We are delighted that Aegeanhas chosen to invest in the North East with direct flights to Athens and beyond.

With only a month to go until the route commences, it is great to see that the positive sales

performance so far has resulted in Aegean taking the decision to add another four weeks of flights, right up until the end of October.

“The route provides a fantastic opportunity for those wishing to visit Athens on a short city break or a longer holiday. Equally, passengers can connect via Athens onto Aegean’s extended network of Greek islands as well as further afield including wider Europe and the Middle East.”
