Following the release of his second number one album ‘Seventeen Going Under in 2021, Sam Fender has been nominated for six NME Awards at the music publication’s celebration of the last 12 months in music.
The album was already rated by the music publication as their album of the year at the back end of 2021, but now Fender could be set for additional praise at the ceremony which is set to take place at London’s Brixton Academy.

‘Seventeen Going Under’ has been nominated for the Best Album In The World category, with the title track from the record nominated as Best Song In The World. These are matched in their UK specific categories while Fender himself has been nominated as part of the Best Solo Act From The UK and Best Solo Act In The World categories.
Fender is set for a busy night at the awards as he has the most nominations throughout the night, one ahead of North London Rapper Little Simz. He will also be performing on the night in a schedule which includes Griff, Halsey, Chvrches and The Cure’s Robert Smith.
This year is a good opportunity for the North Shields local to pick up his first NME Award. He has previously been nominated in the 2020 edition but did not win the Best New Act in the World or Best New British Act awards, which went to Clairo and Easy Life respectively.

The awards are often seen as a parody to the BRIT Awards, which are happening at London’s O2 Arena on February 8, and were renames the Brat Awards for a brief stint in the 1990s while Worst Album Of The Year and Villain Of The Year catagories have also been in place over the years.
Villain Of The Year returns for 2022, which can be voted for by the public alongside Hero Of The Year.
