Sam Fender at St James Park: How to get to the stadium by bus and metro and where to park

Sam Fender’s two day stint at St James Park is nearly here and with so many people heading to the home of Newcastle United for the June shows public transport is expected to be very busy ahead of the shows.

How to get to St James Park by Metro

Thanks to its city centre location, St James Park is easily accessible from three Metro stops. These are St James, Monument and Haymarket. Jesmond Metro station is also a 20 minute walk from the venue. St James is on the sale line as the anyone heading into the city from the North Tyneside coast via Byker while the other two nearby stations are on both Metro lines.

Anyone getting off National Rail trains at Newcastle may need to walk from the Neville Street entrance to the stadium. This can take ten minutes.

Special one day pre paid tickets will also be available to buy from all Metro ticket stations from Saturday, June 3 until the date of the shows.

Sam Fender Metro travel advice

Tyne and Wear Metro operators Nexus has released travel advice for anyone planning on using the system to get in and out of Newcastle on the days of the shows. They are telling gig-goers to plan their journey in advance and make time to travel on busy transport.

Trains are expected to be very busy from after 4pm and, regardless of their destination, people at Newcastle city centre stations may be asked to queue outside between 4pm and 8pm.

The following stations will also be closed in Newcastle on the two days: Friday, June 9

  • St James – closed from 8pm
  • Monument platform 4 (to St James) – exit only from 8pm

Saturday, June 10

  • St James – closed from 8pm
  • Monument platform 1 (towards Heworth) will be closed from 10pm
  • Monument platform 2 (towards South Gosforth) will be closed from 10pm
  • Monument platform 3 (towards Wallsend) will remain open for travel towards Whitley Bay via Wallsend.
  • Monument platform 4 (to St James) – exit only from 8pm
  • Manors– Closed from 10pm
  • Jesmond – Closed from 10pm
  • Haymarket– exit only from 10pm (no entry into the station)
  • Central Station – exit only from 10pm (no entry into the station)

Trains will run through closed stations and platforms without stopping.

How to get to St James Park by bus

Usual bus networks will be running across Newcastle and the wider North East on both days. In addition to regular bus stops, Eldon Square and Haymarket bus stations are within walking distance from the venue.

Where to park for St James Park

Although there is a small multi storey car park to the direct north west of the stadium on Barrack Road, this is mainly used for stadium staff and can get very busy on event days. Newcastle City Council runs 61 car parks across the city and have a map on their website to help visitors find their nearest or most accessible car park. All spots can be found on the Newcastle City Council website.

Newcastle City Council have confirmed Dean Street multi storey, Eldon Garden multi storey, Eldon Square multi storey, Grainger Town multi storey, Manors multi storey and Oxford multi storey car parks will open at the normal opening times for each multi storey car park on Friday, June 9, but will then remain open throughout the period until their respective closing times on Monday, June 12.
