Sam Fender has released a statement after postponing his first show of 2025.

The North Tyneside superstar was expected to kick off the new year with a stateside show in New York City on Tuesday, February 11, although this has now been pushed back to an unknown later date.

Late last year Fender was forced to cut short his winter UK tour, which was set to end with a huge homecoming show at Newcastle’s Utilita Arena just a handful of days before Christmas. This North East show was one of two chalked off.

Fender’s team cited a haemorrhaged right vocal chord as the reason for the cancellation with the hope the singer-songwriter’s health was improve by the new year.

This does not seem to have been the case.

Just after midday UK time on Monday, February 3, Fender took to his Instagram story, saying: “Really wasn’t easy postponing the NY show.

“We’ve been holding off in the hope I’d be ready, but ultimately need a bit more time before hitting the road again.

“We were all buzzing for this one so it’s gutting - but will see you soon.

“Anyone with tickets keep an eye on your emails for more info.”

This year will see more public engagements from Fender, who will be promoting the new album as well as returning to the Brit Awards after being nominated for two awards earlier in January.

He will also headline St James Park on three nights over the summer, as well as a further stadium show in London.

Initially one of the favourites to headline Glastonbury Festival, Fender’s odds have slipped in recent weeks and months. The artist’s schedule for the weekend currently has a Glastonbury shaped hole with no other shows over the weekend, although it is not yet known who will perform at the festival, aside from Rod Stewart, Neil Young and Nile Rodgers, who were confirmed late last year.
