The site was being put together in the first two weeks of April and is set to remain in place until the end of October.

Grey Street Gatherings has been a common sight in the city since 2018 with organisers claiming this year’s setup is the largest yet with more plants and more seating than before.

Previous years have seen events and activities including history and heritage talks, creative arts sessions hosted on the site.

Rachel Barlow, Head of Marketing and events and NE1 Ltd said: "NE1 are delighted to have brought back one of our most popular pop-up gardens and relaxation stations in Newcastle, the Grey Street Gathering.

“Extending over 60 metres in length, the garden provides a welcome chill-out zone for city centre workers and visitors, providing a place to sit and enjoy five minutes R&R, or an outdoor al fresco lunch on what is widely recognised as one of Europe's most beautiful streets.

"The Grey Street Gathering is back for the summer, equipped with integrated seating and a planter garden.

"NE1's popular Relaxation Stations have also made a welcome return to Newcastle's Quayside. We've timed it to perfection, in situ just in time for the warm weather. For more exciting installation and upcoming events, keep an eye on the getintonewcastle website for more on what's to come in the Summer."
