Here’s how to dance in high heels, according to Geordie experts

Dance City, Newcastle are hosting two commercial heels classes in September and November, to help boost the confidence of people in Newcastle.

What is a commercial heels class?

A commercial heels class is an energetic, confidence-boosting dance class, where you will learn dance routines and perform them in high heels. Commercial is the style of dance usually performed by pop artists in their music videos and live performances. The dance style takes inspiration from other various styles of dance to create an amazing, show-stopping routine. With the addition of heels to the commercial style it gives the dance routine a fierce and sassy edge.

The class is open to adults of all ages and abilities!

How much will it cost?

Full price admission is £10. Over 60’s, students, disability and job seekers can pay £8.

What are the dates and times?

The first date is September 22 and the second is November 10. They are both 1-hour classes, starting at 7pm and ending at 8pm.

Dance City, Newcastle is located on Temple Street, not far from Westgate Road. The full postcode is NE1 4BR.

Who is the teacher?

The dance teacher is Jess Doran-Hill, who has taught at Dance City since 2018. She has recently studied a masters in dance.  Her dance styles are jazz fused with contemporary, musical theatre, commercial, street dance and ballet. Jess has performed as a cabaret dancer in the past, where dancing in heels is common practice.

Why should I sign up?

The classes have been designed to help boost the confidence and self-esteem of people with a desire to dance in heels in a fun and healthy way. Commercial heels dancing is all about feeling empowered, self-love and having a great time.

What should I wear and what do I need to bring?

Comfortable clothing is a must! No flares and wide leg trousers. For shoes, block heels are a requirement, no higher than 2 inches. All you need to bring is your heels, a bottle of water and a sassy attitude!
