Santa Claus is coming to South Shields’ Ocean Beach!

A festive North East attraction will celebrate its opening weekend by welcoming a very special guest.

Ocean Beach Pleasure Park, at South Shields, will be transformed into a Winter Wonderland from today - November 26 - with a packed programme in the works for the countdown to Christmas.

And those heading down this weekend can not only make the most of a real ice rink and seasonal snacks but can also pay a visit to Santa Claus himself.

Little ones can share their Christmas lists or snap a selfie with the man in red from 12pm to 2pm on Saturday and Sunday.

Along with a visit from Santa, the park has welcomed a festival bar with fire pits and a variety of kiosks across the site serving festive food and drink.

The venue, which offers free admission and is home to more than 40 rides, attractions and arcade games, will also be decked out with seasonal decorations.

And organisers are currently planning a programme of live entertainment throughout December, including future visits from special guests.

Michael Sheeran, operator at Ocean Beach, is looking forward to launching the Winter Wonderland.

“We wanted this event to bring the magic of Christmas to Ocean Beach and there’s nothing more special than a visit from Santa Claus himself,” he said.

“We’ve planned the Winter Wonderland so it complements the rest of the park, meaning families can book a session on the ice and then make the most of the rides and arcades afterwards too.

“It’s fantastic to see it all coming together ahead of the launch and we’re really excited for our visitors to see what we have been working so hard on.”

Booking in advance is recommended and slots for the ice rink cost £9 for adults and children aged 13 and over, £7 for children aged over 3 and family tickets are available at £27 for two adults and two children.

Private hire is also available for a group of up to 30, with activities running until 9 January 2022.
