Black Friday 2021: When is Black Friday and what is on offer in Newcastle’s shopping centresand online?

Black Friday is just days away and companies are announcing their deals for the big day.

Before Christmas in the calendar comes Black Friday. For many it is a chance to shop for presents on the cheap while others use the occasion as an opportunity to treat themselves, but what is happening around Newcastle this year to celebrate the day?

When is Black Friday 2021?

As an American answer to our Boxing Day sales, Black Friday happens on the day after Thanksgiving each year, meaning this year’s event will fall on 26 November.

What time are shops opening on Black Friday in Newcastle?

While shops are yet to announce when they will be opening on Black Friday, Eldon Square in the city centre have said they will remain open longer than usual. The shopping centre is open from 9:00am until 8:00pm – a difference from the regular 6pm Friday closing time for the site.

The Metrocentre will see no changes to its 9:00am – 9:00pm opening times.

What will be on offer?

Black Friday is no longer just a one-off event and companies are looking to get in on the act early to sweep customers away from their competitors.

Boots have already kicked off their Black Friday sale – which the brand are calling their “biggest ever” – with plenty of beauty and health items already available at reduced prices. The high street chain started their online deals on 1 November and offers became available in stores on 3 November.

Beauty competitors Superdrug have also made their Black Friday sale available early, with members being able to receive discounts of up to 60% both in store and online.

Most Black Friday deals are still yet to be confirmed, but many eyes are currently on Amazon. From Monday 8 November shoppers can order hundreds of products for up to 40% off.

Prime members are also able to get early access to future sale items through the website.

Amazon’s own products are usually big hits throughout the sale priod with Kindles, Alexa devices, Blink cameras and Fire Tablets and TV sticks all tumbling in price.

Fellow online seller Very also have a series of deals available right now. Online browsers can pick up anything from perfume and trainers to furniture, toolkits and bet sets at reduced prices.

Those looking to get away need to look no further than lastminute.com, who are offering deals including four nights in Majorca for £189 per person. The site are also offering discount codes of up to £100.

Mobile phone company Three have also got in early on the Black Friday action. Customers are being offered deal covering phones, tablets and broadband packages including an iPhone 13 Pro on a half price deal for six months in addition to a £100 voucher when switching to the provider.

Phone competitors GiffGaff are also welcoming new customers with deals on new and refurbished phones.

The Perfume Shop has also set up a Black Friday sale with some fragrances up to £40 off.

Other brands including Wowcher have already opened and closed flash sales in preparation for the big day. They’re one to definitely look out for!

After teasing deals for a few weeks leading up to Black Friday, Currys now have a full range of discounts online. The tech giant’s biggest savings come from £1,000 off selected smart TVs and up to £960 off a Samsung smart fridge freezer which are now available at £2799.99.

The highest percentage discounts from the site are for a Samsung Galaxy phone stylus, which is now available for £17.50 from £59.99 and a Tefal express iron, which has been knocked down by £150 to just £79.

Argos are another high street brand offering plenty of deals this year, and the brand are promising plenty of online products are listed at their lowest price ever. This includes a Shark Anti Hair Cordless vacuum cleaner for £249.99 and a Tassimo Bosch coffee machine for £34.99.

The brand’s online store has everything from Star Wars Lego sets to power washers available at discounted rates.

Those looking to purely do their shopping online this year can rejoice with plenty of brands which aren’t available in the city centre really looking to push internet sales this time around.

Pretty Green, which used to have a store on Grainger Street, have everything on their website reduced by at least 30%, so whether you’re looking for a new high quality winter coat, trainers, or jeans, the brand have you covered.

Staying with the subcultural brands, and Doc Martens have teased at offers over Black Friday and Cyber Monday, with nothing yet announced. Potential customers can sign up for email updates to hear about sales when they are first announced.

John Lewis have only recently released information on their sales for this year’s event and have deals across clothing, beauty, home and furniture and more. Most of the deals come in at 20% off including this office chair for any new home workers and a series of Ted Baker handbags.

The company, which holds one of the largest trading spaces in Eldon Square, also has many sought after Apple products available at a discounted rate including Airpod Pros at £54 off and iPad magic keyboards reduced to clear at a price of £164.50.

Elsewhere in Eldon Square, Fenwicks are hosting a fantastic reduction of Ted Baker products. Clothing and accessories from the iconic British brand are available for up to 40% off.
