Each year attractions, museums and other sites across the UK offer free entry to the public as part of the National Lottery Open Week. This year the event returns and this is all you need to know about how to get involved.

What is the National Lottery Open Week?

The week is used by attractions as a way to thank those who play the National Lottery to secure funding. The National Lottery group claim £30 million is raised to support community assets and good causes.

This year’s National Lottery Open week runs from Saturday, March 18 until Sunday, March 26.

How to get free entry to attractions during National Lottery Open Week 2023

Anyone wanting to use the offers set up by attractions can access them by simply showing a National Lottery ticket or scratchcard. Some events may need to be booked in advance.

Where in Newcastle is taking part in National Lottery Open Week 2023?

Newcastle museums and attractions are offering entry, tours or discounts throughout the week.

The Discovery Museum is offering a series of tours to those with National Lottery tickets throughout the week. These are the North East Inventors Gallery tour on Monday, March 20, a tour of the Tyne and Wear Archives on Wednesday, March 22, a Costume Store tour on Thursday, March 23, a Tyneside Challenge Gallery tour on Friday, March 24 as well as a tour of the D-Day and 13th to 18th Hussars Gallery on Tuesday, March 21.

Elsewhere, the Hatton Gallery is offering free entry to its Wilhelmina Barns-Graham: Paths to Abstraction exhibition on Tuesday, March 21 while the Laing Art Gallery is offering 20% off entry to the city centre site’s Visions of Ancient Egypt exhibition throughout the week.

Staying in the city centre of Newcastle, the Common Room of the Great North is offering free tickets to its live science and history show on Wednesday, March 22.

Throughout the week the Great North Museum: Hancock will be offering two for one tickets to the site’s planetarium while an arts and crafts collection tour at Gateshead’s Shipley Gallery will take place on Wednesday, March 22.

Gateshead Older People's Assembly is also offering a free Tai Chi session on Tuesday, March 21.
