The best time of year for those who like to head out on walks is here. Longer days, more predictable weather and warmer temperatures without the risk of heatwaves result in the best time of the year to plan afternoons out the house.
With that in mind, we’ve put together a list of options for spring walks to try over the next few months.
1. North Shields to Tynemouth
Heading west on the Metro from Newasctle can get you to North Shields - home of the Fish Quay, Sam Fender and the start of a lovely riverside walk. Starting at the Fish Quay, walkers can head along the north bank of the Tyne towards Tynemouth and beyond. Photo: Google
2. South bank of the RIver Tyne
Starting near the car park at the end of South Shore Road in Gateshead, walkers can head east along the river, through forests and towards Hewarth before getting the metro back to Gateshead Stadium to collect their car. Anyone wanting to go further can continue along the river to Hebburn's Riverside Park. Photo: Google
3. Exhibition Park
Full of trails, paths and a lake, Exhibition Park is a great spot in the warmer months for those living in the city centre. The public space is also connected to the more open Town Moor and hosts Wylam Brewery - a local beer manufacturer and taproom which also hosts cultural events throughout the year. Photo: Google
4. Wylam
From Wylam Brewery to the town itself, which can easily be reached by train from Newcastle. Wylam offers a stunning riverside walk away from the busier areas of the region and paths can lead travellers east or west on both sides of the Tyne. Photo: Google
