Travelling to Newcastle: Eight things you must do on a visit to the city

Newcastle is one of the largest and most impressive cities in the UK. With its mix of nightlife, stunning bridges along the Tyne and its proximity to the coastline, there is plenty to do if you are based in the North East’s largest city.
While locals may know some of the best ways to spend their time, anyone making the trip to Tyneside may not know the best ways to enjoy the region so we’ve put together a list of the eight things we think you must do if you are spending time in Newcastle.

1. Walk along the Quayside
Newcastle's Quayside is an iconic part of the North East. Take a short walk from the city centre and enjoy the bars, views and riverside walk. Keep an eye out for the famous Kittiwakes which nest on the Baltic Gallery and Tyne Bridge as well as the market which runs every Sunday. (Photo by OLI SCARFF/AFP via Getty Images) Photo: OLI SCARFF

2. Get engrossed in Newcastle United
The success of Eddie Howe's squad has meant this is a brilliant time to head to Newcastle and find out all about the football club. Congratulations if you are able to get a ticket for a home game, which are very difficult to pick up now! If you can't get to a game you can still enjoy the atmosphere at the nearby Strawberry Pub. 3. Visit Ouseburn
Trendy Ouseburn is regularly listed as one of the must-visit neighbourhoods in the UK and for good reason. An ideal day might include vintage shopping at Flea Circus before having lunch at Ernest nearby and heading to the Biscuit Factory agllery before catching a gig at the famous Cluny in the evening. 4. Head out to the coast
As well as major cities, the North East is well known for its stunning coastline and with Whiltley Bay and Tynemouth nearby it would be a shame to miss them! Make the short trip on the Metro to some of the most stunning beaches the UK has to offer. (Photo by OLI SCARFF/AFP via Getty Images) Photo: OLI SCARFF
