A Gateshead drinking establishment has been handed a new four-out-of-five food hygiene rating.

A Gateshead drinking establishment has been handed a new four-out-of-five food hygiene rating.

Birtley Golf Club, a pub, bar or nightclub at Birtley Lane, Birtley, Chester Le Street was given the score after assessment on February 2, the Food Standards Agency's website shows.

It means that of Gateshead's 172 pubs, bars and nightclubs with ratings, 108 (63%) have ratings of five and none have zero ratings.
