Gateshead road closures: nine for motorists to avoid over the next fortnight

Gateshead's motorists will have nine road closures to avoid nearby on the National Highways network this week.

And four of them are expected to cause moderate delays – with drivers facing waits of between 10 and 30 minutes.

The latest expected works list, with notes from National Highways, shows that three closures already in place are expected to carry on this week:

• A1, from 8pm February 15 to 6am February 23, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A1 southbound, Scotswood to Blaydon Lane closure for Vehicle safety fence repair.

• A1, from 8pm January 29 to 6am April 8, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A1 southbound, junction 68 Lobley Hill to junction 67 Kingsway, Dedicated lane closure.

• A1, from 8pm February 7 2022 to 6am August 31 2024, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): A1 northbound and southbound, junction 65 Birtley to junction 69 Coalhouse, carriageway closures and lane closures for major project widening works.

And a further six closures will begin over the next two weeks:

• A1(M), from 8pm February 20 to 6am February 21, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): A1M northbound, junction 64, exit and entry slip road closures for maintenance works.

• A184, from 8pm February 20 to 6am February 21, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A184 Outer ring closure on roundabout and lane closures on approach and exit roads for electrical works.

• A1, from 8pm February 20 to 6am February 21, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A1 northbound, junction 74 entry slip road lane closure for drainage work.

• A1, from 8pm February 22 to 6am February 24, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): A1 northbound, junction 69, entry slip road closure for electrical works.

• A1, from 8pm February 24 to 6am February 26, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): A1 northbound, junction 69, exit slip road closure for maintenance works.

• A1, from 8pm February 28 to 6am February 29, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A1 northbound, junction 70 to 71 Lane closure for Technology equipment.

National Highways is responsible for maintaining motorways and major A-roads, so closures of smaller roads will not be included in their schedule.
