Gateshead road closures: nine for motorists to avoid this week

Gateshead's motorists will have nine road closures to avoid nearby on the National Highways network this week.

And one of them is expected to cause delays of between 10 minutes and half an hour.

The latest expected works list, with notes from National Highways, shows that two closures already in place are expected to carry on this week:

• A184, from 9.30am April 11 to 3.30pm June 20, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A194M northbound, Follingsby Interchange to White Mare Pool Roundabout - South Tyneside works.

• A1, from 8pm February 7 2022 to 6am August 31 2024, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): A1 northbound and southbound, junction 65 Birtley to junction 69 Coalhouse, carriageway closures and lane closures for major project widening works.

And a further seven closures will begin over the next seven days:

• A1, from 9pm May 9 to 6am May 10, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A1 southbound, junction 71 interchange, entry slip road closure for horticultural works.

• A1, from 9pm May 10 to 6am May 11, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A1 northbound and southbound, junction 71 interchange, exit and entry slip road closures for horticultural works.

• A1, from 9pm May 11 to 6am May 13, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A1 northbound and southbound, junction 72 interchange, exit and entry slip road closures and lane closures for horticultural works.

• A69, from 7pm May 15 to 7am May 20, slight delays (under 10 minutes): Heddon on The Wall off slip, closed for carriageway repairs.

• A1, from 9pm May 15 to 6am May 16, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A1 northbound and southbound, junction 73 Interchange, entry and exit slip road closures for horticultural works.

• A1, from 9pm May 16 to 6am May 17, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A1 northbound and southbound, junction 73 interchange, entry and exit slip road closures for horticultural works.

• A1, from 8pm May 18 to 6am May 19, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A1M southbound, junction 65 to junction 64, lane closure for maintenance works.

National Highways is responsible for maintaining motorways and major A-roads, so closures of smaller roads will not be included in their schedule.
