Gateshead's motorists will have seven road closures to avoid nearby on the National Highways network this week.

Gateshead's motorists will have seven road closures to avoid nearby on the National Highways network this week.

And four of them are expected to cause moderate delays – with drivers facing waits of between 10 and 30 minutes.

The latest expected works list, with notes from National Highways, shows that two closures already in place are expected to carry on this week:

A1, from 8pm September 25 2023 to 6am January 31 2024, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): A1 northbound and southbound, junction 70 Dunston, carriageway closures with lane closures for electrical works.

A1, from 8pm February 7 2022 to 6am August 31 2024, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): A1 northbound and southbound, junction 65 Birtley to junction 69 Coalhouse, carriageway closures and lane closures for major project widening works.

And a further five closures will begin over the next two weeks:

A194(M), from 10am to 3pm on January 8, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A194M northbound and southbound, Birtley to Havannah, Hard shoulder closure for inspection/survey works.

A1, from 8pm January 8 to 6am January 9, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A1 northbound, junction 68 Lane two closure on the exit slip road for technology equipment.

A1, from 8pm January 9 to 6am January 12, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): A1 northbound and southbound, junction 68 to junction 69, carriageway closure and slip road closures for inspection/survey works.

A1, from 9pm January 15 to 6am January 16, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): A1 southbound, junction 72 Interchange closure, Electrical works.

A1, from 11pm January 20 to 4am January 21, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A1 southbound, junction 71 to junction 70, lane closure for maintenance works.

National Highways is responsible for maintaining motorways and major A-roads, so closures of smaller roads will not be included in their schedule.
