Gateshead road closures: seven for motorists to avoid this week

Gateshead's motorists will have seven road closures to avoid nearby on the National Highways network this week.

Gateshead's motorists will have seven road closures to avoid nearby on the National Highways network this week.

And two of them are expected to cause moderate delays – with drivers facing holdups of between 10 and 30 minutes.

The latest expected works list, with notes from National Highways, shows that two closures already in place are expected to carry on this week:

A1, from 8pm July 18 2022 to 6am March 10 2023, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A1 northbound and southbound, junction 70 Dunston to junction 74 Scotswood - carriageway closure for communications on behalf of Highways England.

A1, from 8pm February 7 2022 to 6am August 31 2024, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): A1 northbound and southbound, junction 65 Birtley to junction 69 Coalhouse, carriageway closures and lane closures for major project widening works.

And a further five closures will begin over the next seven days:

A1, from 8pm January 30 to 6am January 31, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A1 southbound, junction 70 lane closures for electrical work.

A1, from 7pm February 1 to 6am February 11, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): A1 northbound and southbound, junction 72 Swalwell, exit and entry slip road closures for works off network.

A194(M), from 8pm February 1 to 6am February 2, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A194M southbound, Follinsby interchange, Lane closure for drainage works.

A1, from 8pm February 1 to 6am February 2, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A1 northbound, junction 67 to junction 68, Lane closure for technology works.

National Highways is responsible for maintaining motorways and major A-roads, so closures of smaller roads will not be included in their schedule.
