Gateshead road closures: six for motorists to avoid over the next fortnight

Gateshead's motorists will have six road closures to avoid nearby on the National Highways network this week.

Gateshead's motorists will have six road closures to avoid nearby on the National Highways network this week.

And five of them are expected to cause delays of between 10 minutes and half an hour.

The latest expected works list, with notes from National Highways, shows that two closures already in place are expected to carry on this week:

A1, from 8pm September 25 2023 to 6am January 31 2024, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): A1 northbound and southbound, junction 70 Dunston, carriageway closures with lane closures for electrical works.

A1, from 8pm February 7 2022 to 6am August 31 2024, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): A1 northbound and southbound, junction 65 Birtley to junction 69 Coalhouse, carriageway closures and lane closures for major project widening works.

And a further four closures will begin over the next two weeks:

A1, from 9pm January 15 to 6am January 16, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): A1 southbound, junction 72 Interchange closure, Electrical works.

A1, from 9pm January 16 to 6am January 18, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): A1 northbound, junction 70 exit slip road closure, Electrical works.

A1, from 9pm January 18 to 6am January 20, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): A1 northbound, junction 70 entry slip road closure, Electrical works.

A1, from 11pm January 20 to 4am January 21, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A1 southbound, junction 71 to junction 70, lane closure for maintenance works.

National Highways is responsible for maintaining motorways and major A-roads, so closures of smaller roads will not be included in their schedule.
