New food hygiene ratings have been awarded to two of Gateshead’s restaurants, cafes or canteens, the Food Standards Agency’s website shows – and it’s good news for them both.

Burger King, at 5-7 Russell Way, Metrocentre, Gateshead was handed a five-out-of-five rating after assessment on November 6.

And Bewicks (Civic Centre), at Civic Centre, Regent Street, Gateshead, Tyne And Wear was also given a score of five on October 25.

It means that of Gateshead's 244 restaurants, cafes and canteens with ratings, 202 (83%) have ratings of five and none have zero ratings.
