Good news as food hygiene ratings handed to eight Gateshead establishments

A Food Standards Agency rating sticker on a window of a restaurant in central London. A huge variation in food hygiene standards remains across the UK, with one in five high or medium-risk food outlets failing to meet standards, according to a study.

New food hygiene ratings have been awarded to eight of Gateshead’s establishments, the Food Standards Agency’s website shows – and it’s good news for them all.

Restaurants, cafes and canteens

The following ratings have been given to seven restaurants, cafes or canteens:

• Rated 5: CHOPWELL BRANCH LIBRARY at Derwent Street, Chopwell, Newcastle Upon Tyne; rated on December 14

• Rated 5: CRAWCROOK BRANCH LIBRARY at Main Street, Crawcrook, Ryton Tyne And Weear; rated on December 14

• Rated 5: BIRTLEY BRANCH LIBRARY at Birtley Branch Library, Durham Road, Birtley, Chester Le St Co Durham; rated on December 13

• Rated 5: Leam Lane Library at Leam Lane Centre, Cotemede, Felling; rated on December 13

• Rated 5: Pelaw Branch Library at Joicey Street, Pelaw, Felling Gateshead; rated on December 13
