Road closures: almost a dozen for Gateshead drivers this week

Drivers in and around Gateshead will have 11 National Highways road closures to watch out for this week.

And one of them is expected to cause moderate delays – with motorists facing a holdup of between 10 minutes and half an hour.

The latest expected works list, with notes from National Highways, shows that two closures already in place are expected to carry on this week:

• A184, from 9.30am April 11 to 3.30pm June 20, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A194M northbound, Follingsby Interchange to White Mare Pool Roundabout - South Tyneside works.

• A1, from 8pm February 7 2022 to 6am August 31 2024, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): A1 northbound and southbound, junction 65 Birtley to junction 69 Coalhouse, carriageway closures and lane closures for major project widening works.

And a further nine closures will begin over the next seven days:

• A1, from 9pm May 2 to 6am May 3, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A1 northbound and southbound, junction 68 to junction 69 interchange, entry and exit slip road closures for horticultural works.

• A1, from 9pm May 3 to 6am May 4, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A1 northbound, junction 69 interchange, entry slip road closure for horticultural works.

• A1, from 9pm May 4 to 6am May 5, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A1 northbound and southbound, junction 70 interchange, exit and entry slip road closures for horticultural works.

• A1, from 9pm May 5 to 6am May 6, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A1 northbound and southbound, junction 70 interchange, exit and entry slip road closures for horticultural works.

• A1, from 9pm May 9 to 6am May 10, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A1 southbound, junction 71 interchange, entry slip road closure for horticultural works.

• A1, from 9pm May 10 to 6am May 11, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A1 northbound and southbound, junction 71 interchange, exit and entry slip road closures for horticultural works.

• A1, from 9pm May 11 to 6am May 13, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A1 northbound and southbound, junction 72 interchange, exit and entry slip road closures and lane closures for horticultural works.

• A69, from 7pm May 15 to 7am May 20, slight delays (under 10 minutes): Heddon on The Wall off slip, closed for carriageway repairs.

• A1, from 9pm May 15 to 6am May 16, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A1 northbound and southbound, junction 73 Interchange, entry and exit slip road closures for horticultural works.

National Highways is responsible for maintaining motorways and major A-roads, so closures of smaller roads will not be included in their schedule.
