Food hygiene ratings given to eight Newcastle establishments

A Food Standards Agency rating sticker on a window of a restaurant in central London. A huge variation in food hygiene standards remains across the UK, with one in five high or medium-risk food outlets failing to meet standards, according to a study.

New food hygiene ratings have been awarded to eight of Newcastle’s establishments, the Food Standards Agency’s website shows.

Restaurants, cafes and canteens

The following ratings have been given to six restaurants, cafes or canteens:

• Rated 5: Plaza Cafe & Bistro at Plaza Cafe Bistro Bowmont House Wagonway Drive, Newcastle Upon Tyne; rated on January 10

• Rated 5: Blakelaw Hub at Blakelaw Community Hub Cragston Avenue, Newcastle Upon Tyne; rated on January 8

• Rated 5: Cafe Mercy at Ground Floor 30 - 32 Grey Street, Newcastle Upon Tyne; rated on January 8

• Rated 5: Gather & Gather by CH&CO Catering Ltd at Department For Environment Food And Rural Affairs Lancaster House Hampshire Court, Newcastle Business Park, Newcastle Upon Tyne; rated on January 8

• Rated 5: Super Natural Kitchen at 29 Grainger Street, Newcastle Upon Tyne; rated on December 12

• Rated 4: Geek Retreat at 38 Grainger Street, Newcastle Upon Tyne; rated on December 14
