New food hygiene ratings have been awarded to two of Newcastle’s restaurants, cafes or canteens, the Food Standards Agency’s website shows.

Nergiz, at 40 Elswick Road, Newcastle Upon Tyne was handed a one-out-of-five rating after assessment on February 23.

And The Bake Box 2, at 8 Bentinck Crescent, Newcastle Upon Tyne was also given a score of one on February 23.

It means that of Newcastle's 665 restaurants, cafes and canteens with ratings, 485 (73%) have ratings of five and none have zero ratings.
