New food hygiene ratings have been awarded to two of Newcastle’s restaurants, cafes or canteens, the Food Standards Agency’s website shows.

The Meal Castle Restaurant, at Meal Castle 1b Mill Lane, Newcastle Upon Tyne was handed a four-out-of-five rating after assessment on October 31.

And Wingrove Cafe, at 37 - 39 Nuns Moor Road, Newcastle Upon Tyne was given a score of two on October 31.

It means that of Newcastle's 670 restaurants, cafes and canteens with ratings, 479 (71%) have ratings of five and just one has a zero rating.
