Good news as food hygiene ratings awarded to 10 Newcastle establishments

A Food Standards Agency rating sticker on a window of a restaurant in central London. A huge variation in food hygiene standards remains across the UK, with one in five high or medium-risk food outlets failing to meet standards, according to a study.

New food hygiene ratings have been awarded to 10 of Newcastle’s establishments, the Food Standards Agency’s website shows – and it’s good news for them all.

Restaurants, cafes and canteens

The following ratings have been given to seven restaurants, cafes or canteens:

• Rated 5: Kafeneon at 8 Bigg Market, Newcastle Upon Tyne; rated on March 21

• Rated 5: Blackfriars Restaurant at Blackfriars Restaurant Blackfriars Friars Green, Newcastle Upon Tyne; rated on March 18

• Rated 5: Ming Palace at 121 Chillingham Road, Newcastle Upon Tyne; rated on March 18

• Rated 5: St Sushi at 89 Westgate Road, Newcastle Upon Tyne; rated on March 18

• Rated 5: Tsujiri at 66 Saint Andrews Street, Newcastle Upon Tyne; rated on March 18

• Rated 5: Avanti at 52 - 54 Brentwood Avenue, Newcastle Upon Tyne; rated on March 3

• Rated 5: Sabatinis at Sabatini 25 King Street, Newcastle Upon Tyne; rated on March 2
