Good news as food hygiene ratings handed to nine Newcastle establishments

A Food Standards Agency rating sticker on a window of a restaurant in central London. A huge variation in food hygiene standards remains across the UK, with one in five high or medium-risk food outlets failing to meet standards, according to a study.

New food hygiene ratings have been awarded to nine of Newcastle’s establishments, the Food Standards Agency’s website shows – and it’s good news for them all.

Restaurants, cafes and canteens

The following ratings have been given to seven restaurants, cafes or canteens:

• Rated 5: OCC Concession at 39 Northumberland Street, Newcastle Upon Tyne; rated on April 28

• Rated 5: Harry's Bar and Restaurant at Harrys Bar Brasserie 77 Grey Street, Newcastle Upon Tyne; rated on April 26

• Rated 5: Loaded. B at 35 Heaton Road, Newcastle Upon Tyne; rated on April 22

• Rated 5: Zapatista Burrito Bar at 9 Grainger Street, Newcastle Upon Tyne; rated on April 14

• Rated 5: The Broad Chare at The Broad Chare The Live Theatre 25b - 29 Broad Chare, Newcastle Upon Tyne; rated on April 11

• Rated 5: Wing Kee at 43 Stowell Street, Newcastle Upon Tyne; rated on April 7

• Rated 5: Kenny Atkinson ''House Of Tides'' at 28 - 30 Close, Newcastle Upon Tyne; rated on April 5
