Good news as food hygiene ratings handed to seven Newcastle establishments

A Food Standards Agency rating sticker on a window of a restaurant in central London. A huge variation in food hygiene standards remains across the UK, with one in five high or medium-risk food outlets failing to meet standards, according to a study.

New food hygiene ratings have been awarded to seven of Newcastle’s establishments, the Food Standards Agency’s website shows – and it’s good news for them all.

Restaurants, cafes and canteens

The following ratings have been given to six restaurants, cafes or canteens:

• Rated 5: Captain Ted's at Captain Ted'S West Avenue, Gosforth, Newcastle Upon Tyne; rated on February 10

• Rated 5: Eats Cafe at Unit F Grainger Arcade Grainger Street, Newcastle Upon Tyne; rated on February 7

• Rated 5: KingBabyBagels at 5 - 6 Grainger Market Grainger Street, Newcastle Upon Tyne; rated on February 7

• Rated 5: Kamal Restaurant at 277 Stanhope Street, Newcastle Upon Tyne; rated on February 1

• Rated 5: Kenilworth Hotel And RU Bar Lounge at The Kenilworth Hotel 44 Osborne Road, Newcastle Upon Tyne; rated on February 1

• Rated 5: Pizza Express at Pizza Express 92 Osborne Road, Newcastle Upon Tyne; rated on February 1
