Newcastle road closures: eight for motorists to avoid over the next fortnight

Newcastle's motorists will have eight road closures to avoid nearby on the National Highways network this week.

And two of them are expected to cause delays of between 10 and 30 minutes.

The latest expected works list, with notes from National Highways, shows that one closure already in place is expected to carry on this week:

• A1, from 8pm April 10 2021 to 6am July 29 2023, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): A1 northbound and southbound, junction 74 Scotswood to junction 79 North Brunton, carriageway closures for major Project carriageway widening.

And a further seven closures will begin over the next two weeks:

• A69, from 8pm July 10 to 6am July 18, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A69 Throckley Interchange, eastbound, slip road closures to allow carriageway resurfacing.

• A1, from 7pm July 15 to 6am July 16, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): A69 between, junction A1/A69 and West Denton Interchange carriageway closure eastbound and westbound, for essential maintenance. Diversion via A1.

• A69, from 7pm July 17 to 6am July 18, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A69 West Denton - Lane closure eastbound to carry out safe remedial work on Manhole chamber.

• A69, from 8pm July 18 to 6am July 25, slight delays (under 10 minutes): Walbottle to Throckley westbound, convoy working with westbound, Off Slip closure to allow carriageway resurfacing.

• A69, from 7pm July 22 to 7am August 6, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A69 Throckley Bypass between, junction A6085 and B6528, overnight carriageway closure in both directions to allow routine maintenance.

• A69, from 7pm July 24 to 6am July 26, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A69 Heddon on The Wall off slip, closed for carriageway repairs.

• A1, from 8pm July 24 to 2am August 12, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A1 northbound and southbound, junction 70 to junction 80, Lane closures for inspections works.

National Highways is responsible for maintaining motorways and major A-roads, so closures of smaller roads will not be included in their schedule.
