Newcastle's motorists will have seven road closures to avoid nearby on the National Highways network this week.

Newcastle's motorists will have seven road closures to avoid nearby on the National Highways network this week.

And two of them are expected to cause moderate delays – with drivers facing waits of between 10 minutes and half an hour.

The latest expected works list, with notes from National Highways, shows that two closures already in place are expected to carry on this week:

A1, from 8pm June 27 to 6am July 5, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A1 northbound, - Kingston Park to Seaton Burn, Signage for plate festival.

A1, from 8pm April 10 2021 to 6am July 29 2023, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): A1 northbound and southbound, junction 74 Scotswood to junction 79 North Brunton, carriageway closures for major Project carriageway widening.

And a further five closures will begin over the next two weeks:

A696, from 9am to 3.30pm on July 5, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A696 eastbound and westbound, Kenton Bar to Newcastle Airport, Lane closures for horticultural works.

A696, from 9am July 6 to 3.30pm July 7, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A696 northbound and southbound, Kenton Bar to Newcastle Airport, Lane closures for horticultural works.

A69, from 8pm July 10 to 6am July 18, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A69 Throckley Interchange, eastbound, slip road closures to allow carriageway resurfacing.

A1, from 7pm July 15 to 6am July 16, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): A69 between, junction A1/A69 and West Denton Interchange carriageway closure eastbound and westbound, for essential maintenance. Diversion via A1.

A69, from 7pm July 17 to 6am July 18, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A69 West Denton - Lane closure eastbound to carry out safe remedial work on Manhole chamber.

National Highways is responsible for maintaining motorways and major A-roads, so closures of smaller roads will not be included in their schedule.
