Road closures: a dozen for Newcastle drivers over the next fortnight

Drivers in and around Newcastle will have 12 National Highways road closures to watch out for this week.

And 10 of them are expected to cause moderate delays – with motorists facing waits of between 10 minutes and half an hour.

The latest expected works list, with notes from National Highways, shows that one closure already in place is expected to carry on this week:

• A1, from 8pm January 28 to 6am February 6, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): A1 northbound and southbound, junction 75 to Scotswood interchange, carriageway closures for reconstruction/renewal works.

And a further 11 closures will begin over the next two weeks:

• A1, from 8pm January 29 to 6am January 31, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A1 southbound, Shotton to Seaton Burn lane closure for Vehicle safety fence repair.

• A1, from 8pm February 2 to 6am February 26, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): A1 northbound and southbound, junction 78 Fawdon to junction 79 North Brunton, carriageway closures for reconstruction/renewal.

• A1, from 8pm to 11.30pm on February 5, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): A1 southbound, junction 74 exit slip road closure, Electrical works.

• A1, from 8pm to 10.30pm on February 6, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): A1 southbound, junction 75 entry slip road closure, Electrical works.

• A1, from 10.30pm February 6 to 1am February 7, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): A1 northbound, junction 76 entry slip road closure, Electrical works.

• A1, from 1am to 6am on February 7, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): A1 southbound, junction 76 entry slip road closure, Electrical works.

• A1, from 8pm to 10.30pm on February 7, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): A1 southbound, junction 77 entry slip road closure, Electrical works.

• A19, from 8pm February 7 to 6am February 14, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A19 eastbound, Seaton Burn to Dudley lane, lane closures and diversion route for works off network.

• A1, from 10.30pm February 7 to 1am February 8, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): A1 northbound, junction 79 entry slip carriageway closure, Electrical works.

• A1, from 1am to 6am on February 8, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): A1 northbound, junction 78 entry slip road closure, electrical works.

• A1, from 8pm to 11pm on February 8, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): A1 southbound, junction 79 entry slip road closure, Electrical works.

National Highways is responsible for maintaining motorways and major A-roads, so closures of smaller roads will not be included in their schedule.
