Road closures: nine for Newcastle drivers over the next fortnight

Drivers in and around Newcastle will have nine National Highways road closures to watch out for this week.

And one of them is expected to cause moderate delays – with motorists facing a holdup of between 10 minutes and half an hour.

The latest expected works list, with notes from National Highways, shows that one closure already in place is expected to carry on this week:

• A1, from 8pm April 10 2021 to 6am October 19 2024, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): A1 northbound and southbound, junction 74 Scotswood to junction 79 North Brunton, carriageway closures for major Project carriageway widening.

And a further eight closures will begin over the next two weeks:

• A69, from 7pm November 20 to 6am November 22, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A69 West Denton - Lane closure eastbound to carry out safe remedial work on Manhole chamber.

• A69, from 9am November 21 to 4pm November 23, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A69 Both directions Newton to Whittle Dene - Lane closures with some switching for Routine highway and drainage maintenance.

• A1, from 8pm November 21 to 6am November 23, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A1 northbound and southbound, junction 79 to junction 80, Lane closure for drainage works.

• A1, from 8pm November 22 to 6am November 23, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A1 northbound and southbound, junction 77, Lane closure for drainage works.

• A1, from 8pm November 23 to 6am November 25, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A1 northbound and southbound, junction 79, Lane closure for drainage works.

• A1, from 8pm November 24 to 6am November 25, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A1 northbound and southbound, junction 75 to junction 76, Lane closures for drainage works.

• A1, from 8pm November 27 to 6am November 28, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A1 southbound, junction 74 to 73 lane closure for Horticultural work.

• A69, from 8pm November 27 to 6am December 9, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A69 West Denton Interchange, one lane closed in each direction for bridge repairs.

National Highways is responsible for maintaining motorways and major A-roads, so closures of smaller roads will not be included in their schedule.
