Road closures: seven for Newcastle drivers over the next fortnight

Drivers in and around Newcastle will have seven National Highways road closures to watch out for this week.

Drivers in and around Newcastle will have seven National Highways road closures to watch out for this week.

And four of them are expected to cause moderate delays – with motorists facing waits of between 10 and 30 minutes.

The latest expected works list, with notes from National Highways, shows that two closures already in place are expected to carry on this week:

A19, from 8pm February 7 to 6am February 14, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A19 eastbound, Seaton Burn to Dudley lane, lane closures and diversion route for works off network.

A1, from 8pm February 2 to 6am February 26, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): A1 northbound and southbound, junction 78 Fawdon to junction 79 North Brunton, carriageway closures for reconstruction/renewal.

And a further five closures will begin over the next two weeks:

A1, from 8pm February 13 to 6am February 14, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): A1 northbound, junction 75, exit slip road closure for maintenance works.

A696, from 8pm February 13 to 6am February 14, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): A696 northbound, Newbiggin, exit slip road closure and lane closure for drainage works.

A696, from 9.30am February 19 to 3.30pm February 21, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A696 eastbound and westbound, Callerton lane to Airport, Lane closure with switch for maintenance works.

A1, from 8pm February 19 to 6am February 20, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): A1 southbound, junction 77, exit slip road closure for technology works.

A696, from 9.30am February 21 to 3.30pm February 26, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A696 eastbound, Airport to Callerton lane, Lane closure for horticulture works.

National Highways is responsible for maintaining motorways and major A-roads, so closures of smaller roads will not be included in their schedule.
