Good news as food hygiene ratings handed to 11 North Tyneside establishments

A Food Standards Agency rating sticker on a window of a restaurant in central London. A huge variation in food hygiene standards remains across the UK, with one in five high or medium-risk food outlets failing to meet standards, according to a study.

New food hygiene ratings have been awarded to 11 of North Tyneside’s establishments, the Food Standards Agency’s website shows – and it’s good news for them all.

Restaurants, cafes and canteens

The following ratings have been given to five restaurants, cafes or canteens:

• Rated 5: Gulshan at 60 Hotspur Street, Tynemouth, Tyne And Wear; rated on May 15

• Rated 5: Iris Community Hub at 109 Queen Alexandra Road, North Shields, Tyne And Wear; rated on May 12

• Rated 5: J & J Cafe at Verne Hotel, Potter Street, Wallsend, Tyne And Wear; rated on May 9

• Rated 5: R Place at Ground And First Floor At, 11 Nile Street, North Shields, Tyne And Wear; rated on April 27

• Rated 5: Sea You There at 2 - 3 Victoria Crescent, Cullercoats, Tyne And Wear; rated on April 26

Pubs, bars and nightclubs

And three ratings have been handed to pubs, bars or nightclubs:

• Rated 5: The Saltwater Tavern at Fish Quay, North Shields, Tyne And Wear; rated on May 11

• Rated 5: Forest Hall Working Men's Club at Forest Hall Working Mens Social Club, Errington Terrace, Forest Hall, Newcastle Upon Tyne; rated on April 24
