New food hygiene ratings have been awarded to two of South Tyneside’s restaurants, cafes or canteens, the Food Standards Agency’s website shows.

Sunderland Greyhound Stadium, at Tetley Sunderland Stadium, Newcastle Road, East Boldon, Tyne & Wear was handed a five-out-of-five rating after assessment on October 24.

And The Spud Inn, at 75a Mortimer Road, South Shields, Tyne & Wear was given a score of four on September 29.

It means that of South Tyneside's 171 restaurants, cafes and canteens with ratings, 111 (65%) have ratings of five and none have zero ratings.
