Good news as food hygiene ratings awarded to six South Tyneside establishments

A Food Standards Agency rating sticker on a window of a restaurant in central London. A huge variation in food hygiene standards remains across the UK, with one in five high or medium-risk food outlets failing to meet standards, according to a study.

New food hygiene ratings have been awarded to six of South Tyneside’s establishments, the Food Standards Agency’s website shows – and it’s good news for them all.

Restaurants, cafes and canteens

The following rating has been given to one restaurant, cafe or canteen:

• Rated 5: The Green Room Cafe Bar at The Customs House, Mill Dam, South Shields, Tyne & Wear; rated on July 5

Pubs, bars and nightclubs

And four ratings have been handed to pubs, bars or nightclubs:

• Rated 5: The Kelly at Hedgeley Road, Hebburn, Tyne & Wear; rated on July 13

• Rated 5: Bar Blue at Western Approach, South Shields, Tyne & Wear; rated on July 6

• Rated 5: Expresso Slots at 96 Ellison Street, Jarrow, Tyne & Wear; rated on June 30

• Rated 5: The Britannia at The Britannia Hotel, Charlotte Terrace, South Shields, Tyne & Wear; rated on June 29
