New food hygiene ratings have been awarded to two of South Tyneside’s pubs, bars or nightclubs, the Food Standards Agency’s website shows – and it’s good news for them both.

New food hygiene ratings have been awarded to two of South Tyneside’s pubs, bars or nightclubs, the Food Standards Agency’s website shows – and it’s good news for them both.

The Steamboat Public House, at 27 Mill Dam, South Shields, Tyne & Wear was handed a five-out-of-five rating after assessment on June 6.

And The Lord Nelson, at Monkton Lane, Jarrow, Tyne & Wear was also given a score of five on June 2.

It means that of South Tyneside's 128 pubs, bars and nightclubs with ratings, 76 (59%) have ratings of five and none have zero ratings.
