Benjamin Sesko to Newcastle United transfer: price tag, Erling Haaland claim, RB Salzburg stance

Newcastle United are still on the lookout for a new frontman.

The Magpies have already been pretty busy this summer, with Eddie Howe putting his own stamp on his squad.

But there are still areas the Magpies will want to improve, and the striker department is one of those areas.

One of the latest to be linked is RB Salzburg forward Benjamin Sesko, and here we round up all the latest over a possible deal.

Who is Benjamin Sesko?

Sesko is a 19-year-old Slovenian striker who currently plays for RB Salzburg.

He joined the Austrian giants in 2019, making 26 league appearances since, scoring six times.

During his time at the club, he has also spent time with Liefering on loan, scoring 22 league goals in 44 appearances.

Sesko is 6ft4” tall, but he is rather slight, and he is very skillful with his feet.

Interestingly, Sesko scored on Wednesday night to help Salzburg defeat Liverpool in a pre-season friendly.

Latest report

The latest report claims Newcastle could miss out on Sesko despite links.

According to 90min, the striker could well stay put this summerwith RB Salzburg unwillin gto lose him after parting ways with a number of stars this summer.

Of course, that doesn’t mean a deal is impossible, but Salzburg are determined to keep the frontman, having ‘no plans’ of selling him ahead of the new season.

If they do, it’s reported it will be for a fee of around £55-60million.

What Sesko has said

Sesko hasn’t spoken about a transfer, but he has spoken about just how highly-rated he is.

He has said: “Such comparisons (to Erling Haaland) motivate me and give me energy.

“They do not represent pressure. I will listen and learn so I can be even better than he is. My team-mates at the club tell me that Haaland and I are very similar, especially in terms of speed. Most of them even tell me that I’m better than him!”
