Yankuba Minteh has admitted his future lies in Newcastle United’s hands following a stunning brace against Ajax. Two goals and an assist helped earn Feyenoord a 6-0 rout in De Klassieker - and raised more speculation regarding his summer plans. Newcastle supporters on social media seemed adamant that the Gambian international should be starring at St James’ Park next season.

Toon chiefs stumped up £7million to sign Minteh from Danish outfit Odense Boldklub before loaning him to the Eredivisie. He has since scored 10 goals across all competitions to emerge as one of Europe’s top prospects.

The right flank has proven a problem area for Eddie Howe throughout 2023-24. Miguel Almiron has failed to replicate last season’s heights, with question marks also remaining about Jacob Murphy’s long-term credentials.

FFP/PSR restrictions means Newcastle must be prudent with their wallet and, at £7million, Minteh could prove a steal. The winger will turn 20 in July but it remains to be seen whether he will play for United or spend another season on loan.

Feyenoord fans are just as desperate to learn his fate after watching the youngster impress at De Kuip this season. Speaking after the Ajax win, Minteh opened up about the decision being out of his control.

“No,” Minteh told reporters when asked where he will be playing next season. “My focus is here. I am a Newcastle player but, at the moment, I play for Feyenoord. Would I like to play for Feyenoord next season? I don’t know. Feyenoord are a great club and if I get the opportunity, I would like to stay, but it depends on Newcastle United’s decision.”
