Latest news on the transfer front regarding Newcastle United

Newcastle United have emerged as a possible suitor for Manchester United attacker Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portugal international is facing an uncertain future at Old Trafford at this moment in time.

As detailed in a report by The Sun, his advisors have ‘sounded out’ St. James’ Park as a potential destination for him if he was to stay in the Premier League. London pair Chelsea and Arsenal have also been mentioned, as have Italian Serie A side Napoli.

Newcastle an option?

Newcastle have been linked with a whole host of big names since their big-money takeover last year and have been shrewd with their recruitment. Ronaldo is one of the greatest players of all time, but at the age of 37 would he really suit Eddie Howe’s side?

The Toon Army are well drilled and are going well with the players they have at the moment. They have risen up to 4th in the league table following their win over Tottenham Hotspur last time out.

The fact they have even been credited with being an option for Ronaldo shows how far they have come over the past 12 months. There is no doubt that the veteran’s future most likely lies away from United now and he was left out completely over the weekend in their game away at Chelsea.

An exit in January seems a distinct possibility with Chelsea, Arsenal and Napoli mentioned as other possibilities. His contract expires at the end of this campaign.
