Agent of £39m Newcastle United transfer target visits Manchester United training ground

Newcastle United and Manchester United continue to be credited with an interest in Monaco central defender Axel Disasi.

There have been reports over the last couple of weeks claiming the Magpies have already agreed personal terms with the Frenchman, despite not launching an official bid.

And it is NewcastleWorld’s understanding that the 25-year-old is not currently being pursued with doubts over how serious the Magpies’ interest actually is.

Meanwhile, whether or not Man United push to sign Disasi is set to depend on Harry Maguire’s future, or any other potential outgoings after signing Mason Mount and the imminet arrival of Andre Onana for a combined total of just under £100million.

But should the Red Devils accelerate their interest, French publication Foot Mercato claims the foundation have already been put in place after Disasi’s agent and brother visited their facilities earlier this year.

With Newcastle set to sell Allan Saint-Maximin to Saudi Pro League side Al Ahil, Eddie Howe will look to finalise a deal for Leicester City winger Harvey Barnes before assessing other positions.

Strenghtening the defence has been discussed, despite Howe’s side boasting the joint best defensive record in the Premier League last season.

Jamaal Lascelles sits behind Sven Botman and Fabian Schar in the pecking and there are question marks over his future. Schar, meanwhile, for as good as he has been under Howe, turns 32 next year.

Newcastle have also been linked with Joachim Andersen with interest in the Crystal Palace understood to be a lot more credible than the Disasi reports.
