Freshers week in Newcastle 2022: What are the top events happening across the city for Newcastle and Northumbria University students?

Exams are over, results are in and now another excited group of young people are preparing for at least three years of further education at the Newcastle and Northumbria universities.

Moving from home life to university can be a huge step in life, with universities and students’ unions doing their best to welcome new faces to the city.

And freshers’ week is among the best ways to introduce students to university life.

What is freshers’ week?

Used as a welcome period for students to get to know their new city, university, flatmates and coursemates, freshers’ week is the best chance students have to get used to the university lifestyle. This includes club nights and daytime events set up by student unions, as well as course leaders giving a further glimpse of what to expect over the next three years.

When is freshers’ week in Newcastle?

Newcastle University and Northumbria University have two different freshers weeks in 2022, with Newcastle’s falling between Sunday, September 18 and Friday, September 23 and Northumbria’s coming a week earlier, between Sunday, September 11 and Sunday, September 18.

What events are happening as part of Newcastle University’s freshers’ week?

Newcastle University Students’ Union have put together a calendar of over 300 daytime activities throughout the region in addition to DJ sets, nights out in the city centre and more.

The biggest name heading to the city as part of the week is Bastille, who will play a DJ set to headline the week’s launch party. Thenight will also see sets from Zela and Billen Ted.

Other nights will see students being given exclusive access to the city’s newest music venue NX for a night with Danny T and Charlie Sloth with other nights available to book once a wristband has been purchased.

Daytime events see students being offered guided tours of the city and wider region, meet and mingle sessions in bars across the city, yoga experiences, indoor climbing and more.

What is happening during Northumbria University’s freshers’ week?

In addition to a range of similar daytime events to Newcastle University, freshers at Northumbria can look forward to nights out at Tup Tup Palace, Riverside, Cosmic Ballroom and more with DJs yet to be announced.
