It’s Newcastle’s answer to the great US tradition of Macy’s Thanksgiving Front Window or Harrods Christmas decorations. Department store Fenwick will once again excite Newcastle residents with their latest Christmas Window display, which opens this week on 39 Northumberland Street.

The tradition of Fenwick decorating the window of their Newcastle store dates back to 1971 and since its dazzling debut has become a cornerstone event of the Tyne and Wear festive calendar. But such is the vaunted appeal of what will appear in the window that designers involved with the Christmas window have once again remained tight-lipped on its theme.

Previous subject matter in the annals of Fenwick’s Christmas Window history have included the beloved Peruvian bear Paddington, the world of Beatrix Potter, Roald Dahl’s Charlie and The Chocolate Factory and The Snowman. All of which were rated by Newcastleworld last year to help jog your memory.

Much like during coronavirus restrictions, there will be a digital reveal the very moment the curtains are thrown back at Fenwick, with a select number of guests and staff on hand to witness the unveiling in person.

But given the length of time the display will be on show for, Newcastleworld can assure you that there is no huge rush to get their to see it - but if patience is not a virtue, here’s what you need to know about Fenwick’s Christmas Window 2022.

How can I see the Fenwick’s Christmas Window this year?

Those wishing to see Fenwick’s Christmas Window have been asked not to attend in person on the opening evening of the reveal but instead can watch the unveiling through the Fenwick Official YouTube channel on Sunday (November 6). This is due to a number of road closures in place during the construction of the feature, so drivers be warned around that time.
