Newcastle United legend David Ginola got the nation talking last night as he made his debut on I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!

In his opening interview, Ginola looked forward gleefully to the challenges ahead, talking of his willingness to eat anything and everything.

He said: "Of I'm starving; fish eyeball, anus. Bring me any anus. I will eat any anus if I'm starving."

During the episode, the former Magpies star was partnered with Strictly Come Dancing's Arlene Phillips for an opening challenge that involved passing a tool through an underground box of snakes.

Ginola looked bemused as Phillips became flustered with the task.

He patiently guided the choreographer saying: "My finger is in the hole! Nice and easy, slow down, take your time."

He then launched into a rendition of Dexy’s Midnight Runners’ hit 'Come on Eileen' to cheer on his partner.

Ginola's antics were a hit with viewers at home and the star moved up to joint-favourite to win I'm a Celeb.

The 54-year-old started the evening at 11-2 to win the show but finished at 4-1, according to William Hill.

Another said: "Never normally watch @imacelebrity but the chance to watch David Ginola banter with Ant & Dec? Whey aye."

For other viewers, it was Ginola's timeless good looks that had them glued to the television.
