10 powerful images of people battling Storm Otto as it hits Tynemouth beach

Storm Otto has arrived and these snaps show people battling the elements on Tynemouth beach on Friday morning.

Dog walkers and Tynemouth residents battled the elements when strolling along the coast this morning as Storm Otto batters the region.

The Met Office has put a yellow weather warning for wind in place until 2 pm today with gusts of up to 60 mph blowing along the coast.

The Met Office has said: "A spell of strong winds is expected during Friday morning, easing from the west during the afternoon.

"Winds will be strongest over, and immediately to the east of high ground, with gusts of 50-60 mph. Gusts as high as 65 mph are possible in places. High-sided vehicles may be particularly impacted."

With four-legged friends needing walking and some people wanting to start their Friday with some fresh air, it didn't stop a handful of locals from hitting Tynemouth beach earlier today to stretch their legs as the sand blows.

Below are 10 powerful images of people on the coast during Storm Otto.
