Cheapest fuel prices Newcastle 2022: where to get petrol and diesel near me - and why are prices going up?

Rising petrol and diesel costs have been in the news a lot recently, and the conflict in Ukraine was the first cause for this back in March.

On 7 March fuel prices hit a UK high, this comes after the price of oil rose significantly to $139 per barrel.

On 8 March, a ban of Russian oil was confirmed by the UK government, and imports are to be phased out by 2023.

This decision had another impact on the price of fuel at our pumps.

The cut of 5p on fuel duty has lessened the burned slightly for motorists, but prices remained high and the ban on Russian oil has added to the problem.

As of 3 July, the average price of a litre of petrol in the UK was 191.53 pence whilst the average for a litre of diesel was 199.03 pence.

This is according to the RAC.

Finding somewhere relatively cheap to fill up your tank can feel like an impossible task at the moment, but to help with this, we have got together some of the least expensive filling stations around the city and the surrounding area.

Will fuel prices come down?

With the continued war between Russia and Ukraine, it is unlikely that we will see a fall in prices in the near future.

Industry observers expect, due to the market for oil becoming unsettled as a result of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the situation will worsen in the coming days and weeks.
