Chi Onwurah has been named the most influential politician in UK Tech by Computer Weekly.

Hide AdThe Newcastle Central MP was ranked 23rd out 50 individuals on the list, the highest-ranked member of parliament on the list.
Onwurah, who serves as the shadow minister for science, research and digital for the Labour party, was listed higher than members of the Scottish and Welsh government.
The 57-year-old was listed as a “vice-chair of the Parliamentary ICTG Forum and former board member of the Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology.”

Hide AdOnwurah is also a chartered engineer, having worked as Head of Telecoms Technology at Ofcom prior to becoming Newcastle Central’s MP.
Speaking of the ranking, Onwurah said: “I am a tech evangelist, I believe passionately that technology can be a force for good but it also needs active government to make sure tech works to the benefit of people and businesses across our country.
“The current government are not serious about science and technology, it is time for a Labour government who will ensure we reach our full innovation potential.
“I am pleased that my work with the tech industry has been recognised by Computer Weekly. I believe in collaboration and a partnership between policymakers and business.”
