We are now in the middle of the Easter holidays and kids across the North East may be running out of things to do.
With that in mind, we have put together some of the best day trips to towns and cities across the Country which can be reached from Newcastle.
From coastal and rural retreats to city centre excitement, these are some of the top places to head for a day trip from Newcastle Central Station.
1. York
With a beautiful city centre to explore, lovely shops and plenty of places to eat and drink, York is a top destination for anyone wanting to leave the North East for a day. Trains regularly travel between the two cities on the East Coast Main Line. Photo: Gary Longbottom
2. Edinburgh
Edinburgh is full of culture and places to explore. You can easily start the day at Edinburgh Castle and end with a trip up Arthur's Seat while barely leaving the Royal Mile in between the two! The city is also on the East Coast Main Line. Photo: Jeff J Mitchell
3. Berwick
Also on the East Coast Main Line, Berwick is full of independent shops, riverside walks and coastal mini trips. Photo: Alan Hughes
4. Whitby
Between its Abbey, seafood and cobbled streets to explore, it is easy to spend a day exploring this coastal haven before returning north. Photo: Jonathan Gawthorpe
