The big day is only a matter of hours away now, but for anyone wanting to visit family or find some Boxing Day deals over the festive season should keep an eye on changes to public transport.

This is how Go North East, Stagecoach and the Tyne and Wear Metro will be operating over the coming days.

Tyne and Wear Metro Christmas and New Year schedule

No Metro services will run on Christmas Day or New Year's Day while the final services on Christmas Eve will run hourly, although 30 minute service will be in place between Pelaw and South Gosforth.

Boxing Day will see a revised Saturday service put in place between around 8am and 8pm.

From Wednesday, December 27 until Friday, December 29 Metro services will run to a weekday timetable, and to a Saturday timetable on Saturday, December 30. 

On New Year’s Eve, a Sunday service will run until around 9.00pm, then every 30 minutes, although trains will run every 15 minutes between Pelaw and South Gosforth.

After a day of no service to kick off the year, normal service resumes on Tuesday, January 2.

Go North East Christmas and New Year bus schedule

Go North East buses will run to normal times until Saturday, December 23, with service changes starting on Christmas Eve.

On Saturday, December 24, buses will run to a regular Sunday timetable but final services will start between 6pm and 7pm.

No services will run on Christmas Day.

Go North East has confirmed Nexus will be providing services on "key corridors" across Tyne and Wear, which will be operated by the bus company. These services include the 1, 2/2A, 4, 5, 6, 10/10A, 20/20A, 21, 26, 35/35A, 39A, 47, 49/49A, 51/52, 53, 56, 84/85, 307, X1 and X66.

From Wednesday, December 27 until Saturday, December 30 a regular Saturday service timetable will be in place while New Year's Eve will see buses run to Sunday timetables with last departures coming between 6pm and 7pm, much like Boxing Day.

No buses will run on New Year's Day before regular services resume on Tuesday, January 2.

Stagecoach North East Christmas and New Year bus schedule

Stagecoach will keep to the same schedule as Go North East and not run on Christmas Day or New Year's Day.

On Saturday, December 24, buses will run to a regular Sunday timetable but final services will start between 6pm and 7pm.

Boxing Day services can be found through the Nexus website, as the travel company are paying for Stagecoach to run certain services on the day after Christmas Day.

A Saturday service will be in place from Wednesday, December 27 until Saturday, December 30 while New Year's Eve will see a Sunday service in place until around 6pm, with reduced services until around 7:30pm.

Normal service will resume on Tuesday, January 1.

Shields Ferry Christmas and New Year schedule

No services will run on Christmas Day and New Year's Day.

Christmas Eve will see a Sunday service with the last ferry from South Shields at 6.15pm and from North Shields at 6.30pm.

On Boxing Day ferry services will operate to a Sunday timetable.

The ferry will run to a normal timetable from Wednesday, December 27 to Saturday, December 30.

On New Year's Eve there will be a Sunday service, with the last ferry from South Shields at 6.15pm, and from North Shields at 6.30pm before normal service resumes on Tuesday, January 2.
