Newcastle United are constantly being linked to other sports, namely those that their owners- PIF- are targeting for acquisitions and investments.

And there is one man who seems to be getting a kick out of it. Newcastle United director Mehrdad Ghodoussi is no stranger to social media, often commenting on Newcastle players’ photos and interacting with fans.

Last night he took to Instagram to share a photo of himself smiling with Formula One World Champion Max Verstappen.

The caption cheekily read ‘He gave me some good tips,’ followed by a football and racing car emoji. If I was to clutch at straws I’d deduce Ghodoussi is hinting at a potential deal between PIF and F1. But instead I’m going to focus on the real story at hand here: Ghodoussi playing Dutch Cupid.

Of course, posing with a Dutch global celebrity led to a certain Dutch Newcastle United player to excitedly interact with the post. Sven Botman commented the ‘okay’ hand emoji underneath the photo of the pair, alongside the Netherlands flag.

And Ghodoussi was quick to reply, connecting the pair and perhaps setting them up for a future friendship. ‘ he’s a big fan of yours by the way,’ said the United director, alongside an expected winky face.
